COORDINATOR OF THE SEMINAR
Dr Boris Grozdanoff has an MA degree in Philosophy from the University of Sofia (1997), a PhD degree from the Philosophy of Science Dept. at the Institute for Philosophical Research (2006) and expects a second PhD degree from the Central European University in Budapest, (2007). He is working in both epistemology and philosophy of science and in particular, on scientific thought experiments and a priori knowledge. Among his other areas of interest are philosophy of mathematics and philosophy of physics. In 2004 he specialized at the University of Toronto under Prof. James Brown. In 2006 he was a Visiting Fellow at The Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh. Currently he is a Research Fellow at the Philosophy of Science Dept., Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
ORGANIZERS OF THE SEMINAR
Dr Marina Bakalova has an MA degree in Philosophy from the University of Sofia (1998), a PhD degree from the Epistemology Dept. at the Institute for Philosophical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2005) and expects a second PhD degree from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary (2007). She is working in the field of Virtue Epistemology. Among her other interests are Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science. In 2005 she specialized in Fordham University, USA, under the supervision of Prof. John Greco. Currently she is a Research Fellow at the Epistemology and Ontology Dept. at the Institute for Philosophical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
Assist. Prof. Vassil Vidinsky has an MA degree in Bulgarian Philology and MA degree in Philosophy from the University of Sofia. In 2005/2006 he specialized in KU Leuven as an international scholar in the Centre for Metaphysics and Modern Philosophy. He is expecting his PhD degree in Philosophy from the University of Sofia in 2007. He is working on Descartes and Newton, his primary interests are in Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy and Theory of Literature. Currently he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Philosophy (Univerisity of Sofia).
Assist. Prof. Dr. Ruzha Smilova has a MA degree in Philosophy from Sofia University and a PhD degree in Political science (2006) from the Central European University, Budapest, with supervisor Prof. Janos Kis. She specialized in Oxford under Prof. Joseph Raz in political, moral and juridical philosophy. Among her interests are the debates around the normativity of the instrumental practical reason (Broome, Raz, Korsgaard, Jay, Wallace). Currently she is teaching courses on current political theory and theory of rational choice in the Political Science department at Sofia University.
Dr Julia Vasseva has an MA degree in Philosophy from the University of Veliko Tarnovo (1997) and a PhD degree from the Philosophy of Science Dept. at the Institute for Philosophical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2003). She is working in philosophy of science and in particular, on the problems of: the intertheoretical reduction; the demarcation (distinction between science and nonscience); the ad-hocness in scientific theories; nature of scientific concepts and statements; problem of the criterion. Since 2004 she is a Research Fellow at the Philosophy of Science Dept. at the Institute for Philosophical Research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
